Knowmark Travelblog: Madrid 2003

Peterborough - Toronto

We are leaving for Madrid today! While the weather forecast is not promising, we are looking forward to our first visit to España. We have booked a housekeeping place in the Salamanca district in Madrid, at the corner of Calle de Goya and Calle de General Pardiñas. While we plan to spend most of our time in Madrid, we also have tentatively planned to visit Toledo (overnight, perhaps) and Segovia. And, of course we will go to the Museo de Prado. As luck would have it, there is a temporary exhibition, Manet at the Prado, that starts just a few days before we arrive. We certainly hope to make it part of our visit.

We decided on the Salamanca zone as we thought it might be a little quieter. We certainly plan to spend time visiting Old Madrid (Plaza Mayor, Plaza de la Puerta del Sol, Palacio Real, etc.), but the area immediately north of Parque del Buen Retiro caught our attention.

Looking ahead, our tentative plans are to return to España in spring, 2004. We had really been planning for that trip, but got a little carried away - which is why we will be in Madrid and the surrounding area for a short stay (nearly ten days) in October.
